lake chelan

We spent Memorial Day weekend at our favorite getaway The Lakehouse in Lake Chelan. This year marks our 4th year of trips to Chelan, which makes me smile. I love a good tradition. So we packed up the car and headed east towards the sun.

The Lakehouse is always the same. It looks the same, it smells the same, the smores and nightly campfires are the same. We love that. Ally and Hudson could hardly wait to get their swim suits on to head to the pool. But in keeping tradition, we unloaded our luggage then got back into the car to head to the beautiful Walmart Lake Chelan has to offer. Yes, Walmart and beautiful in the same sentance. It really is. We found all kinds of goodies and snacks, including my children's favorite mini boxed cereal...an absolute must on vacation. We got back to our condo just in time for smores and a quick dip in the pool.

The next morning we had breakfast and coffee on the deck while we enjoyed the view of the lake. Dan and the kids spent the afternoon down at the pool while I stayed behind and got caught up on some work. It's amazing what you can get done with a few minutes of peace and quiet! After naps we walked to Campbells, our favorite restaurant, home of the World's Best Popcorn Shrimp. The first time we had it was when Dan and I got engaged, so it is a little bit sentimental (if fish can be?) but we come every year for our giant plate of popcorn shrimp and reminiscing of our romantic engagement....which by romantic, I mean on a sweaty run around the lake and Dan dropping to one knee pretending he twisted his ankle. No joke.

After dinner we walked over to the famous bridge and took a few pictures. Ally decided she wanted to play photographer for a bit, so within seconds she snapped about 375 photos on my camera. She took a photo of just about everything she saw, from rocks, to bridges, sticks, fish, water, her brother, Dan and I....you name it, it's on my memory card. After our shoot with Ally James Photography, we went back to "smoke" smore's as Hudson calls it.

The next day we went over to the lake where they've recently brought in loads and loads of peagravel to create a man made beach. Apparently they closed off the dam and the lake is historically low. Which, I believed. I grew up going to Lake Chelan and had NEVER seen the lake that low. It was crazy. We ate our old school drive-in lunch and sat on the "beach" watching Ally and H play. After being taken over by high schoolers and college kids, we decided we'd rather be laying by our pool across the street.

That night we went back to Campbells for another round of popcorn shrimp but missed the nightly smores campfire. So Dan picked up all the ingredients at the grocery store and made us smores on the barbecue. A perfect ending to a very relaxing weekend away. The kids took one last swim in the pool and we headed back to Lake Stevens. On the way home I asked the kids if they had more fun in Disneyland or Lake Chelan.

Lake Chelan. Kids like tradition too.
